Continuous Replenishment (CR), often also mentioned as Efficient Replenishment (ER), means the inclusion of manufacturers in the planning cycle of orders and deliveries of trade companies, based on sales and inventory data reports. Continuous Replenishment represents a component of ECR in the context of "vertical co-operation". An important target of CR is the optimization of inventory management. The partners involved expect significant cost reductions, a forced movement of goods and a clear decrease of out-of-stock-situations in the trade outlets. Therefore, CR requires the co-ordination of all partners involved in the supply chain – trade, supplier and logistics operator. A mandatory prerequisite for the implementation of CR concepts is the EDI ability, since the information needed by all partners must be exchanged electronically because of their time-critical character. The typical EDI transactions for CR are
Further important CR technologies are represented by barcoding and scanning. Thus trade requires the use of the bar code EAN 128 in combination with the assignment of so-called SSCC's (serial shipping container codes). The supplier or the logistics operator assigns a unique SSCC to each pallet/position with the commissioning, which is attached apart from further information in form of a bar code at the commodity. The SSCC serves for tracking&tracing and facilitates the goods receiving process with the trade company and is transmitted in context with the electronic despatch advice. stratEDI supports trade and suppliers within all steps for successful process co-operation. The services present themselves as follows:
